LGBT History

The Stonewall Riots, in 1969, are a landmark in the modern gay rights movement. Several nights of fierce rioting at the Stonewall Inn in New York sent shockwaves around the world and initiated the modern gay community and gay activism as we know it.

In the UK, it was not possible in the past, for legal reasons, to publicly show that you were gay and because of this, a lot of the history of what was the LGBT sub-culture has never been fully reported.

Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month takes place every year in February. It celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. It is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Britain and Northern Ireland.

Gay Left
This was a collective of gay men in London UK which, between 1975 and 1980, published ten issues of a socialist journal examining the links between socialism and gay liberation.

Peter Tatchell Gay and Human Rights Campaigns
Peter Tatchell is the UK’s foremost gay and human rights campaigner, he has been campaigning for human rights, democracy, LGBT freedom and global justice since 1967.
