<p>Activities on World Sports Day will include archery, cycling, skate boarding,  rock climbing, table tennis, football, boccia, new age curling, basketball, kayaking, tug of war, tennis, volleyball and static bike machines.</p>

<p>The <strong>Youth Make A Difference Fund</strong> offers grants of up to £500 to people aged between 16-24 who want to run projects in Tower Hamlets Homes neighbourhoods.</p>
<p>Just tell us what the project is, why there is a need for it and how it will make a difference to young people. Your application must be supported by a youth, community, voluntary or other charity organisation.</p>
<p>Ideally, applicants need to live, work or study in Tower Hamlets Homes neighbourhoods.</p>

Volunteering as a Community Champion in Tower Hamlets will provide new skills and experience which can also help volunteers gain employment.</p>
<p>Volunteer roles include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Welcoming visitors to Tower Hamlets</li>
<li>Sharing knowledge of the area with people from across the globe</li>
<li>Promoting the best of the borough</li>
<li>Providing information on Games-time locations</li>
<li>Helping to keep people moving</li>
<li>Playing a hands-on role with the Council and its services</li>
</ul>
<p>All volunteers will receive a full training package, with the option of pursuing accredited training where possible, including:</p>
<ul>
<li>Customer Relations</li>
<li>Health and Safety</li>
<li>Health Promotion Training</li>
</ul>
<p>Online applications should be made by April 30, 2012 by completing the application form. Applicants need to register with My Tower Hamlets (<a href="https://my.towerhamlets.gov.uk">https://my.towerhamlets.gov.uk</a>) to complete this form.</p>

<p>The course is free but participants need to be aged 14 to 30. Taking part in the course could lead to you getting a Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) card.</p>

<p>If you’re between 14 and 18, join performance poets Toby de Angeli and Nichol Keene (from the Roundhouse’s Elephant Collective) to create and share your own poems, lyrics or stories. Once you’ve honed and toned your words, we’ll help you speak and perform them. The workshops will culminate in a show case performance in the summer. We&#8217;re currently working with young writers and poets in our three local boroughs: Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets.</p>
<p>The workshops take place weekly from Saturday 21 April at 2-4pm</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Tower Hamlets Homes (THH) would like to create inspiring opportunities for its young residents aged 18 &#8211; 24. We are looking for volunteers to become an active member of their neighbourhoods who take pride in the area they live in by becoming ambassadors for their neigbourhoods.</p>
<p><strong>Youth ambassadors are about:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Creativity</strong> – ambassadors will involve themselves and encourage other young people in their neighbourhoods to become involved in THH activities in a creative and productive way.</li>
<li><strong>Empowerment</strong> – ambassadors will become involved in the process of decision making that will impact on them so they can have real influence.</li>
<li><strong>Leadership</strong> – ambassadors will be held as role models and champion the improvement of young people’s leadership, decision making and other soft skills.</li>
<li><strong>Understanding</strong> – ambassadors will help to widen young people’s understanding of housing management and its activities.</li>
<li><strong>Stopping stereotype</strong> – through their work and actions, ambassadors will help to break the negative stereotype that surrounds young people.</li>
<li><strong>Increased involvement</strong> – ambassadors will champion young resident’s involvement in everything as they will be THH future tenants and leaseholders.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Roles and Responsibilities of Ambassadors:<br />
</strong></p>
<p><strong>You will:<br />
</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>be a young voice of the neighbourhood you represent.</li>
<li>act as a role model for your neighbourhood.</li>
<li>have an opportunity take part in regular neighbourhood inspections.</li>
<li>attend formal meetings and discuss matters of importance in your neighbourhood.</li>
<li>use your knowledge and skills to seek solutions or advise THH Officers from a young person’s perspective.</li>
<li>have an opportunity to be involved in dealing with ASB issues in connection with our ASB officers.</li>
<li>participate in youth projects to ensure they meet the needs of young people.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>What’s in it for you?</strong></p>
<p>So we’ve said what we expect from you.  But what’s in it for you?  The benefits in return are fantastic, below are some of the things you can get out of your experience as an ambassador:</p>
<ul>
<li>Improve your CV or get into employment – volunteering as an ambassador can give you experience that can help you if you’re looking for a job or changing career directions.</li>
<li>You will be assigned to a mentor who will provide you with the benefits of their life and work experience and help build your networks and profile.</li>
<li>You will have opportunities to develop yourself through one to one work with THH Strategic Engagement Team and identify any gaps in training and life skills and gain access to courses.</li>
<li>You will learn new skills and raise your confidence and communication skills</li>
<li>You will meet new people and share ideas and views and learn from each other.</li>
<li>You will gain an understanding of how THH is run and get to know how the housing sector works.</li>
<li>Volunteering also improves health where you get a feel good factor about yourself and others.</li>
<li>Volunteering may seem like hard work, but you’ll have lots of fun being an ambassador!</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Young fashion designers aged 14-19 years old working with ‘A’ Team Arts and Futureversity, have created two stunning collections based on themes and events relevant to young East Londoners in 2012. ‘Liquid History’ captures the sparkle, majesty and mystery the River Thames, and ‘Higher, Faster Stronger’ investigates the anatomy of Olympic athletes to inspire the construction of knitwear and prints.</p>
<p>These will be displayed on the catwalk on April 19th at 1.15pm as part of Alternative Fashion Week at Old Spitalfields Market.</p>
<p>The ‘Make Do and Mend’ project has been run as a partnership between the council’ youth arts team and Central St Martins College of Art and Design and young people who took part will be selling hand crafted items and running a workshop from their stall – come and make your own unique brooch! </p>
