Staying Safe with Mobile Phones

  • Don’t respond to nasty calls or messages to your phone. The person sending the message may not be who you think they are. They may be using a stolen phone.
  • If you getting abusive messages then get an adult to reply. Text back that the message may be reported to the police.
  • Keep any abusive messages and images. They can be used as evidence against bullies.
  • Tell your friends NOT to give your phone number out to other people without your permission.

What to do if things go wrong

  • Talk to an adult about the problem (ideally your parent/carer).
  • Ask them to contact the phone network for you.
  • Networks can sometimes change your number for you and they will give advice on informing the police.
  • Buy a new SIM card and only share the number with trusted people.
