They’re waiting for your call to help you explore your choices, develop new skills and ultimately find you your dream job, training or course!

PAYP
This programme makes sure there’s heaps for you to do every school holiday. We’re not just talking table tennis and pool, there’s some really interesting stuff going on all over the borough. Canoeing, radio production, personal training, football coaching, fashion design, body massage and driving are just some of the things you could try, whether you’ve tried them before or not. And this programme always has lots of trips – from local ones to the cinema, to longer ones where you get to stay somewhere overnight.
The activities are run by different organisations so you’re free to choose what you do; you don’t have to go to everything. As long as you’re 8 to 19, PAYP could help you fill your time, meet new people and get experience to put on your CV.
When and where?
Dates: Weekdays and some weekends during every school holiday

PAYP: Junior Chef Academy
London City Hospitality Centre has teamed up with Compass Group to run the exciting Junior Chefs’ Academy. It’s ideal if you’re a school pupil aged 12 to 16 who wants to learn how to work in the hospitality industry. It’s also a really good way to learn basic cookery skills, so you can cook great, cost-effective meals for you and your friends.
Course runs for 10 weeks – every Saturday for three hours. You will be provided with a chef’s jacket, hat and a great set of kitchen knives to use on the course. You’ll also receive an award and a certificate in front of a wide audience – including employers and celebrity chefs! Plus, you’ll get the chance to talk to chefs and find out what it’s like to work in a busy kitchen. We’ll also help you choose the next course to
help you succeed in the hospitality industry.
The club is run through the Positive Activities for Young People scheme and you will need to have the PAYP form completed by your youth worker or personal adviser. The closing dates for applications is 22 December 2010 so hurry up and get in touch!

PAYP: Fashion Saturday Club
Are you interested in a career in fashion or the creative arts? Or maybe you just like getting creative with textiles? If so, the Fashion Saturday club could be for you! The Hub team are working in partnership with the Youth and Connexions again this year, through their Positive Activities for Young People programme (PAYP) to bring you Fashion Saturday! You can transform recycled clothing into new fashion statement or come along and get support with your GCSE or A Level art and design coursework.

LECP: Motivate to Achieve
Just the ticket to help you find a job. You’ll build a fantastic CV and develop lots of skills employers will love, including how to handle job interviews. You’ll also meet new people and build your confidence on overnight trips, as well as get help finding a job that’s right for you.
Once you finish, you could get up to £30 in vouchers of your choice, and your travel is paid for the first time you go.
When and where?
Dates: You can choose days and times that suit you, from Monday to Friday. The programme lasts for 12 weeks and you need to go for at least an hour a week. If you need more support, you can go for longer; the whole thing is geared towards you.
Venue: 1-9 Romford Road, Stratford E15 4LJ (a seven minute walk from Stratford station, not far from Maryland train station.)

Youth Participation: Visionaries
Here’s your chance to tell the experts what you think. The Visionaries group are the big thinkers. They come up with ideas and suggest changes to the big wigs in the Connexions service – so that young people have a voice about how things are done. If you reckon Connexions could do things better, sign up. You’ll learn how to manage money and get training, all while building an impressive CV.

OSCA Economic well being
A sure way to develop your skills and help you get a job. If you’re Somalian and need a skills boost, this is the thing for you. Through volunteering, you’ll learn communication skills that will make you more confident and the type of person employers want to take on. You’ll also get help applying for jobs, have career sessions with an adviser and go through a leadership skills programme.

St Hilda’s Routes into Developing Skills
Want to stand out from the rest? With leadership skills you can. This will improve your communication skills and get you solving problems, to help you understand the world of work and what it involves. By taking part in workshops, you’ll get an accreditation, which will help you build a CV and set of skills that employers are looking for.

Action Dog Media Savvy
The perfect thing if you want to be the next Jay-Z or Beyonce, or you fancy yourself as a future movie mogul, ad agency director or producer. You’ll mix with industry professionals and write/produce/direct your own music track, music video, short film and ad campaign. Plus you’ll get an accreditation, free grub and help with paying your travel. Get in quick – this course gets booked up fast!

Tower Project: LEAP (Learning employment action programme)

New Start
What is it?
This is a service with a difference. With New Start, you get your own personal adviser who’ll make sure you have everything you need to get on track. You’ll meet your personal adviser every week to plan a way to get you into work, college, university, an apprenticeship…..or whatever you want to do – the world’s your oyster. They’ll put you in touch with other people who can offer a load of fun things to do like: bowling, rock climbing, overnight trips, cooking and music.
