Tower Hamlets Interfaith Youth Committee Project

Do you want your voice heard? Because Interact wants to offer you an opportunity which does just that…

Interact is an organisation which promotes cultural awareness, encourages interfaith activity and aims to combat issues of disadvantage and social exclusion amongst young people. It runs projects and events which involve people of all faith and non-faith backgrounds working together in order to transcend stereotypes and to increase understanding between those of different beliefs.

The Tower Hamlets Interfaith Youth Committee Project is designed for young people who live in the Tower Hamlets area, want to influence those in authority and are interested in improving their future and the future of their community. These young people will form a youth committee which will work with the Tower Hamlets Inter-Faith Forum (THIFF) in order to shape policy towards faith communities, tackle incidents of faith hate crime and work to promote the positive impact of faith communities on the borough.

This project will give young people a chance to assert themselves and make their opinions heard. It will also teach them skills that will be useful in their future jobs. They will be trained in management and media, which will improve their teamwork and organisation skills, and will enhance their CVs. The committee will get a taste of fame as they will be trained to create a photography exhibition for the area that introduces the group to the borough.

After this introduction to the public, the youth committee will also have the opportunity to organise interfaith community events which will increase understanding of different faiths and non-faiths and celebrate diversity. This will be great experience and will equip the young people with skills that will be greatly valued by future employers.
