Young Mayor priorities
The team have listened to feedback from their peers and have decided to focus on the following three areas during their two-year term:
Community cohesion
The Young Mayor team feel that the perception of territorialism affects all young people in some way and they want you to feel safe travelling around the borough. By looking at this issue, they hope to reduce prejudices so you feel more able to use the borough’s youth clubs and facilities. So far, the team have worked with a range of organisations to produce a scrutiny report on the issue.
NEET reduction
The team will be working with the council’s Transition Support Team and local businesses to increase employment and training opportunities for young people and to help promote the opportunities out there.
Anti-discrimination
The team are keen to celebrate the borough’s diversity and to encourage young people to unite on the issues that affect them. Their One Borough event in October was a great success – bringing nearly 200 young people from all over Tower Hamlets together to take part in a sports and cultural fun day.
