Young Mayor Candidate Manifesto
I’ve been living in Tower Hamlets all my life and I have a good understanding of issues that are affecting young people. I’ve been involved in raising over £100,000 for the redevelopment of the Wapping Youth Centre. I’ve been involved in the Youth Opportunity Fund panel giving grants of a total of £500,000 per annum. I’m also part of the Tower Hamlets LAP representative for the local youth partnership as well as the Tower Hamlets Homes interim panel. My hobbies include playing football which shows commitment as well as spending some leisure time with my peer group.
So vote for NAHIMUL ISLAM and let us young people…UNITE. ACHIEVE. SUCCEED.
My three priorities are:
- I want to reduce levels of Not in Education Employment or Training (NEET). I also plan to get the maximum out of the 2012 Olympics, by accessing volunteering and job prospects. As well as this I would like to see young people from Tower Hamlets actively take part in the competition and where possible help get funding to those that are gifted and talented as well as benefit from the legacy of the Olympics. Also to make more effective and easy, opportunities to get the young people ready for the world of work.
- My second issue is to encourage young people to take part in youth facilities and accredited courses by raising awareness. I also want to make use of school buildings after school and try my best to narrow achievement gaps.
- Improve community relations. Get everyone from the borough to work together as a team and end territorialism. I personally believe that working as a team is the starting point to solving any problems, because I believe TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More!
