The Tower Hamlets Youth Council is made up of a core group of 15 young people from across the borough, as well as many more that choose to attend meetings at various different times and occassions.
Together we have developed a vision which is something that we base all our work and ideas on, as well as what we use to measure whether to accept job offers and consultations from outside parties and other agencies.

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2011. The Youth Council will assess your application and if successful you will be invited for an interview day involving team work and project planning as well as an informal interview with a panel of young people. The final decision will then be given to you within 7 days.
The Youth Council is open to all young people, but there are only 15 spaces available so be sure to really get across why you want to become a part of it.
What does the Youth Council do?
Tower Hamlets Youth Council aims to be the voice of the youth by consulting with young people on their issues and concerns, and to create opportunities for them to address these by:
- Strengthening community relations
- Influencing decision makers
- Encouraging young people to speak in public
- Uniting the youth
- Running projects, campaigns, workshops and lobbying
We have also prioritized 3 different areas where we would like to use our budget and expertise and develop some worthwhile youth-led community friendly projects to address them. They are:
- Crime – especially issues around gang conflict, post code wars, and drugs and alcohol abuse
- Health – obesity issues and STD’s
- Events celebrating the education of young people and their successes – this includes community cohesion and intergenerational links
There are a number of roles within the Youth Council which have been internally elected and each member will have their own responsibility. The members are as follows:
